Buenos Aires Big Game – End of Season 2012 Report

Buenos Aires province is well known for its extended big game season. It opens March 15 and closes in mid-December. This slot includes Axis Deer and Blackbucks—the two most coveted species of our hunting program. We hunt most of our Blackbucks during duck season (May-July), allowing clients to combine wingshooting and big game stalking into their varied itineraries. This season, guests shot a dozen very nice Blackbucks, with Jennifer from Florida scoring one of the best of the season. It was also her first big game animal! The Axis Deer spring season begins now and extends into mid-December. Most of the big bucks are in hard antler growth and the weather is just beautiful. It’s the perfect time of the year to combine big game hunts with doves hooting in Cordoba. Due to the intensive rains central Argentina received in late winter, we’re expecting one of the best springs in many, many years!

Red Stag Chile – End of Season 2012 Report

Few people know that a patch of forest and hills in the central valley of southern Chile hides some of the biggest wild red stags in the world. RSP has exclusive hunting rights to these grounds and is well versed in the intricacies of the area. This past season was another success, with the big stags venturing out of the woods like clockwork for the mid-March rut. Our guest harvested nice bulls, most of them during misty mornings that are so typical of the Chilean woods—a similar esthetic to the forests in Eastern Europe. We expect a great 2013 season, so far winter has been mild and the herds appear to be fat and healthy. Antler growth should be excellent.

Red Stag Junin – End of Season 2012 Report

The 2012 season in the Junin area of Patagonia was very good. Many people were curious to see what would happen with the game, considering the ash from the highly active Puyehue Volcano. Thankfully the ranch is located far enough north from the main ash path that the effects were limited. When the season started in early March, the ranch was crawling with deer and the weather cooled the large stags began moving into the valleys. Early season hunts produced good results, which continued through the remainder of the season. Our guests could not have been more pleased. Looking ahead, the number of hinds (cows) counted this year has been high—a god indication for 2013. Likewise, we’re expecting to see approximately 1,500 stags at the ranch during the rut. Plenty of glassing to keep you busy! There are still a few opening during prime time for 2013. So if you like to hunt in the vastness and remoteness of Patagonia—100,000 acres of prime hunting land for you and a couple of buddies—our ranch in Junin de los Andes is your perfect choice!

Junin Red Stag Hunting Report – Season 2011

In a word, The 2011 Red Stag Season in Patagonia was for the first time in a couple of years, “normal.” In 2009 and 2010, we had summer-like weather well into March. This pushed the beginning of the roar and mating season into to late March and April. Last year by late February and early March we started to see nice cool days that moved a lot of deer around, and by the second week in March the roar started in full swing–lasting until mid-April. During these two months and early May, we estimated that we had more than 4000 head of red deer on the ranch, with a lot of nice bulls. Every day clients were glassing for herd after herd looking for nice Stags. We expected a great 2012 hunting season, and our ranches have not been affected by the Puyehue Volcano and it ashes. The deer population on our property remains abundant and healthy!

Chile Red Stag Hunting Report – Season 2011

The 2011 Red Deer season in the Central Valley of Chile was very good, as we have come to expect. With a good, strong rut during most of March and early April. The big bulls showed up in the valleys and open fields by late March. Some monsters never came down during the day and stayed most of the time in the deepest woods up the mountains, coming out only at dark for a few hours. Those big guys will be at the estate this next 2012 season and unless nature culls the herd, they will be around again. These Stags are not easy to hunt, but they are the biggest 100 % wild Red Deer in South America, comparable only to the those that live in the darkest forests of Eastern Europe. (we don’t include New Zealand in our consideration, since almost all the big stags there are killed behind high fences) The “Fundo” (Ranch in Chile) is looking great and green this spring with lots of food for the game. We harvest very few stag each season, only old mature bulls that have finished their reproductive life. Hunts at this property are very limited, so we advise to book well in advance if you are interested in this one in a lifetime trophy hunting opportunity.
