With operations in Argentina and Chile, our carefully curated programs offer truly wild hunts amidst the breathtaking peaks of South America. A letter from our founder

My journey into the world of big game outfitting began shortly after high school, during long trips to Patagonia with friends in search of trout. Sometimes we traveled in an old, beat-up car, and other times with nothing more than a backpack and a thumb out on the road. Those early adventures gave me some of the finest dry-fly fishing days of my life, wandering through Patagonia as true trout bums.

At that point, I had very little experience as a big game hunter. Most of my hunting background had been with a shotgun in hand and a pointing bird dog by my side, chasing upland birds. But while camping along remote Patagonian trout streams, sleepless nights became common as the roar of red stags echoed all around us.

Those sounds felt like something from another world—distant, powerful, and magnetic. I often found myself standing in the middle of a river, fly rod in hand, staring at the hills where the red deer climbed each morning to their resting beds. That sight stirred a deep curiosity in me. What once seemed unreachable slowly grew into a passion that would eventually shape my career: introducing others to the magic of hunting in South America.

Many years later, after working professionally in the fishing and bird hunting outfitting industry, a client asked me to arrange a red stag hunt for him. Through long-standing friendships and contacts in Patagonia, I successfully organized that first hunt—an experience that quickly led to many more. Over time, I was fortunate to travel to the United States, where I visited and worked with established big game hunting outfitters. Those experiences allowed me to learn from some of the best in the industry, knowledge that I later brought back and applied to our hunts in Argentina.

After serving as Head of Sales for what was then a very young Kau Tapen Group (known in those days as Kau-Tapen Lodges), I always stayed in close contact with Fernando, the company’s operating owner. During one of our conversations, I told him about the custom red stag hunts I had been organizing. Not long after, he asked me to consider bringing big game hunting into the company’s offerings.

After giving it some thought, I realized it was a great opportunity to take big game hunting in Argentina to a new level—one defined by the service, professionalism, and standards of KTG, combined with my hunting experience. It was an easy decision. Just a few days later, Red Stag Patagonia was born as the third brand of the group and its official big game hunting division.
