Big Game Hunting in Chile

Chile is a land of contrast and natural majesty—snowcapped volcanoes, rolling farmland, native forests, and a temperate climate that mirrors the seasons of the Southern Hemisphere. While it’s long been celebrated for its trout fishing and stunning national parks, it’s also home to one of the most exclusive red stag hunting programs in the world.

Nestled in the Lake District of Southern Chile, Red Stag Patagonia’s Chilean program offers a unique opportunity to hunt for truly enormous, free-range stags. These animals roam unfenced territory shaped by over 80 years of meticulous herd management, and many have earned spots in the record books. With only six mature stags harvested per year, this is one of the most limited and sought-after red stag experiences in South America.

Hunts take place on a private, family-owned ranch spanning more than 20,000 acres. The terrain—rolling hills, wheat fields, and dark timber—is ideal for stalking and glassing. Roaring bulls echo through the valleys at dawn, and it’s not uncommon to encounter giants at close range, emerging from the mist in the early light.

Each hunter is guided 1:1 by a member of the owning family—local experts who know the land intimately. Spot-and-stalk is the primary method, though European-style elevated stands are also available for those who prefer still hunting.

The experience is centered around a stone-and-wood mountain lodge, perched above Rupanco Lake with panoramic views of the surrounding peaks and hunting grounds. Small groups are hosted by the owners themselves, and evenings are spent around the fire enjoying traditional Chilean asados and home-cooked meals, paired with fine local wines.

For guests looking to extend their stay, it’s easy to combine this hunt with one of our Argentine programs—no flights required, just a scenic drive across the Andes.

With its wild stags, family legacy, and remarkable setting, Red Stag Chile is a rare and unforgettable hunting experience—available to only a select few each season.
